Retreat Description
In a world facing the polycrises of genocide, colonialism, climate crises, hatred towards migrants and trans people, and wars waged for oil, how do we as 2SLGBTQIA+ folks keep our hearts tender while demanding justice? How do we cultivate resilience through compassion?
In this four night/ five day retreat, we will explore how Buddhist teachings on compassion can help us meet grief, helplessness, anger, and fear with clarity and steadiness. We will draw from the teachings on both tender and fierce compassion, alongside other heart practices, to awaken our capacity to stay steady and alive in our aspiration for the liberation of all beings. As we strengthen our ability to stay present with what is here, we also build confidence to face a world on fire.
The retreat will include meditation - stationary, movement, working, and eating - chanting, Dharma talks, community ritual, group check-ins and unscheduled mindful time. Our time together will be held in Noble Silence from the first evening until the last day, including a requirement to turn off and put away all electronic devices unless other arrangements are made in advance (eg: you’re a caregiver or parent and need to be in touch with family). This retreat is grounded in both Insight/Vipassana and Plum Village Buddhist lineages, with a trauma-informed approach that values adaptation and choice.
This is a retreat for Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, intersex, asexual, non-binary, pansexual, agender, questioning and trans people. If your heart experience lies outside a straight or cisgender identity, you belong here!
